Anirban was born and grew up in a small village of West Bengal, India. He earned his BSc in Chemistry from RKMRC, Narendrapur, followed by an MSc from IIT Kanpur, where his research focused on the use of aziridines for the synthesis of complex heterocycles. During his MSc studies Anirban completed a summer internship at IIT Guwahati in the field of organocatalysis followed by an internship at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung in Mülheim, working on organocatalytic asymmetric synthesis. He completed his PhD at the Universität Münster under the supervision of Prof. Armido Studer, with a focus on TEMPONa and strained ring systems. Anirban joined the Schoenebeck group as a postdoctoral researcher in April 2025.
